Love Like the Movies by Victoria Van Tiem - Blog Tour Stop!

Summary from Goodreads

Kenzi Shaw knows the plot of her life down to the last line - the career she's building as an up-and-coming marketing exec, the gorgeous fiancĂ© (Bradley) she'll marry in a fairytale wedding, the children they'll raise in her dream home. But when heart-breaking ex Shane comes back into her life, life starts going off the script . .
Shane tries to win Kenzi over by re-enacting all the rom-com movies they used to watch together - Sleepless in Seattle, Bridget Jones's Diary, Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing to name a few. He's just a guy, standing in front of a girl, asking her to trust him again. But has he really changed? Not only is her head in a spin over Shane, but now her job is on the line. And with her perfect sister-in-law showing up every tiny thing Kenzi does wrong, she feels like she's permanently in the corner.

Should she risk her sensible life for the chance of a Happy Ever After? One thing's certain, when Shane meets Kenzi (again), she's suddenly not so sure who her leading man is . . .

Perfect for fans of From Notting Hill with Love . . . Actually and You Had Me at Hello. Grab some popcorn, hit the sofa and enjoy this feel-good and very funny novel.

My Review

Raise your hand if you've ever felt overshadowed by a family member, someone who always takes your moment and turns it around on themselves. I'm pretty sure nearly everyone has their hands raised! Well, this is the perfect read for you then. It's an empowering story that shows one woman's fight to get what she wants out of life, instead of always trying to please everyone else.

Main character, Kenzi Shaw, thinks she's  got her whole life mapped out. A great job, a gorgeous fiancee that her parents love and dreams of a future family. Just when things seem to be working out for her she is out shined by her perfect sister-in-law, shocked when an ex-boyfriend walks back into her working life, makes big shocking revelations and is also betrayed by so called friends. It's fair to say that it doesn't rain but it pours for Kenzi Shaw and her life very quickly goes down the toilet.

You know, it all sounds very dramatic and doom and gloom, honestly though, I've never laughed out loud so much while reading before. Humour packs a big punch on every page and it makes the story seem so much more realistic, it also makes Kenzi seem so much more down-to-earth and human. My favourite funny moments included the paintball session, the hilarious car chase and the gym pow-wow!

There is a fantastic movie theme to the story and it truly is a really great addition. Rom-com movie buff Kenzi, has to re-enact movies that she and her ex had watched together, as part of her new work project. It makes her realise how much she felt for him, but can she really go back there? I particularly loved the Pretty Woman re-enactment...

A very pleasing ending had me smiling like a love struck idiot.

Love Like the Movies is a humorous tale full of love and laughter. It is written with great care and attention to the finer details. I felt a great sense of escapism while loosing myself in Kenzi's beautifully rocky but emotional journey! I could very easily recommend this light, fun and very fresh read.

4.5 / 5 Stars
