Love and other Demons (The Witching Pen Blog Tour) – Ending a Series.

If you have not yet read The Witching Pen series, these posts may contain spoilers, as we are now on the last book!

With The Last Dragon released on 4th October, we’ve been having a little recap at everything that’s happened in this paranormal fantasy romance series so far.

See here for all previous blog tour dates and posts: http://www.thewitchingpen.co.uk/1/post/2013/08/not-long-to-go-now.html

Today, I'm blogging about something a little bit different: I'm talking about my experience of ending a series, and it's my first experience of this. It really is like letting go of family, and I can tell you now that I think I finally know why many authors will write ten, fifteen, twenty books in a series and still continue on – it's really damn hard to let go of family.

Writing The Last Dragon was hard for a few reasons, one of them being that in many ways, I said goodbye to the series at the end of book three, The Demon Bride, even though I knew I'd still have one more book to write. Book three ended a certain way, and for all intents and purposes, a lot of the story was done – not all, as some fundamental questions still needed answering – but a lot if it was.

So, coming back to The Last Dragon after having begun another series, was extremely hard … but a story – a different story, not directly to do with The Witching Pen – still needed to be told. I know this, because the characters pressed at my brain, my fingers itched and my mind wouldn't rest. I had to switch gear. I had to cage some very loud, boisterous werewolves (the beasts of my new series) for the sake of the apocalypse. Like hell was that easy!

The Last Dragon begins with all characters in limbo one way or another, and since I usually feel what my characters feel when I write a book, well, that was me in limbo, feeling disconnected, lost, and like I just wasn't making sense. I found most of this book hard to write – the apocalypse is a heart-wrenching place – and here's the miracle: by the time I had finished, particularly after I received the proof paperback, I looked at this thing of beauty in my hand and realised the entire thing had been a test. One huge test. I stood at “the end” not quite knowing how I had gotten there, or how anything had fallen into manifestation, but marvelling, slightly awestruck, at the realisation that I had survived the apocalypse.

BLURB
It's hard being the most powerful witch on the planet. It's even harder when you're a twenty-five year old virgin who'll lose all of that power the moment you sleep with someone ... that's why Elena's never slept with her best friend and flatmate, Karl, despite the true feelings they harbour for each other. Elena's about to discover that there are even more difficult things in life to deal with. One of them comes in the form of a pen she discovers one day, a pen that allows anything she writes to come to pass... Suddenly, it's not just her powers or her heart that's at stake, but her very soul, as a dream demon with a seductive pull uses the pen to try and turn her away from her reality, and from Karl. But the pen is just the beginning. Everything Elena has believed in is a lie, and her world is about to fall apart...
