Short Blurb/Synopsis:

Emerald City Dreamer is book one of the urban fantasy series, Dreams by Streetlight, set in Seattle. Jina is a rock star and a faerie hunter, who users music as her weapon. But she is a dreamer, so her music also attracts and feeds the fae.

As she finds herself falling in love with an elf, conflicts with Sandy escalate.

Enemies begin to gather, and Jina must make a choice between loyalty and what she believes.

Delve into this deeply developed, internally consistent world of the fae, and meet beings who are simultaneously alien, elegant, and terrifying, fueled by dreams and the creative energy of artists. Glimpse the secret world of Tir Nan Og through the eyes of fully fledged four-dimensional characters living in a Seattle that is just a bit weirder than you think.

This is a story with psychological depth, a page-turner with unexpected twists and turns.

About the Author

Luna is an indie author located in Seattle, WA. Her first story (about a

hippopotamus) crawled out of her head at the early age of 4. Her mom had to write it down for her. After running out of things to say about hippopotami, she switched genres to sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. During a ten-year break from fiction, she primarily wrote non-fiction and became an accidental expert on mind control, computers, and faeries. After returning to fiction in 2010, she now publishes ebooks and seeks publication in short story markets. She has written over thirty short stories and three novels.

4 Irish Fairies That Should Keep You Awake At Night

I’ve had a fascination with Ireland for many years, perhaps because a large part of my ancestry is Irish. My grandfather’s grandfather came to America during the potato famine, and a bunch of great-great-greats on my mother’s side came over long before that.

Though my connections to the land are distant, and I’ve never had the opportunity to visit, something spiritually binds me to that place. So it is an honor to be posting here on Carly’s blog, as my words span the globe to my ancestor's homeland.

It’s no mistake, with my Irish affinity, that I’d choose to write novels about faeries. Ireland, one of the last surviving remnants of a Celtic culture that once spanned most of Europe, is rich in fairy lore.

Jett is a character in my novel Emerald City Dreamer. She is an elf (or in Irish, Aos Sí) who inhabits a human body that is half-Irish, half-Japanese. Her soul is much, much older, and she once was a goddess among the Tuatha Dé Danann. Jet is a good example of one of the gentle fae, though she is dangerous in her own way.

There are plenty of other Irish faeries that go bump in the night and rightly should send shivers down your spine. Here are four of them:

1. Fear Gorta – A man of famine, the fear gorta travels the land begging for money, looking like a half-starved corpse. He may be a sign of coming shortages, and was thought to have brought on the Irish famine in the 1840s. Other than those little inconveniences, he can actually be lucky.

2. Alp Luachra – Unlike the Fear Gorta, the alp luachra will feed you. Itself. If you make the mistake of falling asleep next to a stream or brook, this faerie will turn into a newt, crawl down your throat, and take up residence in your stomach. Once there, it will cause you some amount of pain, eat all the food you consume, jump around in your tummy regularly, and steal your appetite. Until you starve.
Cure: Eat tons of salty food until you’re ready to burst, then lay very still next to the stream with your mouth wide open, for about an hour. It will get thirsty and jump out. Note: It may have spawned babies, so wait for them all to leave.

3. Gancanagh or Gean-cannah (the love talker) – The Gancanagh poses as a handsome human male smoking a pipe. He will seduce a human woman, sometimes through the use of a drug-like excretion on his skin. Women who fall for him will waste away dreaming of him, until they eventually die. The Leanan Sidhe is a similar creature, only female, and her relationship with men is slightly more beneficial. She will inspire her lovers to become talented poets, but they will die an early death, because she vampirically feeds on their life force.
Advice: Run away. Also: Only fall in love with ugly men.

4. Dubhlachan or Dullahan or Gan Ceann – A rider of a black horse who carries his or her rotting head under one arm. It smiles an impossible, toothy grin that reaches from ear to ear. Its eyes are huge and are looking all about as if insane. The dubhlachan carries a whip made from a human spine. You cannot lock a Dubhlachan out – he can unlock any door. If he catches you looking at him, he will throw blood on you or lash out your eyes. And if he stops in front of your house, you will die.
Weakness: Gold will scare the dubhlachan away. Save that for the fear gorta.
