The Spook's Blood by Joseph Delaney

Summary from Goodreads

Time is running out for Thomas Ward. His final battle against the Fiend is drawing near, and the Spook's apprentice has never felt more alone in his task. Isolated and afraid, the Fiend is set to send the greatest of his servants against him - Siscoi, a Vampire God more ferocious than anything he has yet faced. Tom must risk his life to prevent the evil beast from entering this world, even as he learns that the final destruction of the Fiend may involve a sacrifice more terrible than he can imagine...

My Review

The Spook's Blood is the 10th epic instalment in the Wardstone Chronicles and yet again I have been blown away, with Mr Delaney's ability to deepen his world and add to the vivid detailing!

In this instalment we see Tom and The Spook travel to the county's borders, to purchase new books for the Chipenden library. But when they get there they realise that something very sinister is at work! The villagers are very wary of strangers and are always on guard and stay in after sun down.

When they visit the Romanian lady who is selling the books they soon find out that all isn't what it seems. Tom will be left to face the terrifying vampire god, Siscoi, alone and he is terribly worried about the missing Spook.

These aren't your typical run of the mill vampires, Joseph Delaney puts his own unique and very deadly stamp all over them - he truly makes them his own. These vampires are so much more ferocious than any I have ever read about before.

As always Delaney's writing is spot on and it easily pulls the reader in and holds them in a tight grasp. The descriptors are rich and the world building is mind boggingly brilliant. Every book I manage to get a little closer to Tom and I think he has developed so wonderfully throughout the series.

The Spook's Blood is a terrifying tale full of adventure, chills, thrills and surprising moments. I loved the setting and the new dark creatures that came out to play. A MUST read for fans of the series.

4 / 5 Stars!
