Goddess Girls - Persephone the Phony by Joan Holub & Suzanne Williams

Summary

As Persephone's mum encourages her to do, she often "goes along to get along" instead of doing what she really wants. But when she meets Mount Olympus Academy bad-boy Hades, she finally feels she has found someone with whom she can be herself. He's the first person who actually listens to her, and she finds herself liking him, despite the fact that the other goddess girls think he's bad news. But if he makes her feel so special – and she's so comfortable hanging around him – can he really be all that bad?

Authors Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams put a modern spin on classic myths with the Goddess Girls series. Follow the ins and outs of divine social life at Mount Olympus Academy, where the most privileged godboys and goddessgirls in the Greek pantheon hone their mythical skills.

My Review

This is the second instalment in the Goddess Girls series and it's safe to say the series is only getting better. It is fast-paced, fun, witty and really well written. I enjoyed this one more than the first simply because the main character Persephone is so down-to-earth and relate-able, I think most people will love her too. Even though they are Goddess Girls they still go through all the struggles of normal young girls, because life never really runs smoothly, does it?

Persephone goes along with the crowd, just to fit in. She even does things she doesn't want to, she feels like a phony, like no-one knows the real her. But when she meets the mysterious Hades, things start looking up. She feels free to be herself when she is with him, she really likes him and it it seems the feeling is mutual.

But Persephone's Goddess Girl pals don't like Hades. They don't trust him because he lives in the underworld. He comes across sullen, moody and a bit of a trouble maker, when actually he is a real cutie. But can Persephone make the other girls see that? Will they ever accept him?

Well the ending is a real winner and I was so pleased for everyone. I am really enjoying this fun and addictive new series and I cannot wait to see what the authors have in store for the 3rd instalment. If you haven't read the first book, go read it first, I can highly recommend this series to any 8+ girl.

My favourite character:

Hades: He comes across quite badly but he is quite the opposite, he is fun, nice, kind and caring. He is very interesting and I loved finding out about him and the underworld.
