The Devilin Fey

A paranormal romance novella of two stories, featuring an incubus and succubus.

Story #1 (The Devilin Fey) features a demure young woman who unleashes the "devil in" her, through the intimacy with an incubus--her incubus.

Story #2 (Tongue-Tied) features a voyeuristic succubus driven by jealousy and a dangerous fixation.

GENRE: Paranormal Romance / Urban Fantasy / Contemporary Fiction

* Recommended for readers who are seeking something different in the "paranormal romance" genre.

NOTE: The author's brand of "paranormal romance" tends to be more complex/spiritual > commercial (lots of ground to cover!). The focus is on the story, not romantic/erotic fluff.

EXCERPT

He looked like he did the night before. Same shirt. Low-rider jeans with shreds across the left thigh. One hand was behind his back, and he held it out, presenting a bouquet of white and smoky purple lilies.

"These are for you."

Purple and white -- my favorite colors.

"Th...thank you." The lilies were divine. They were fresh stalks, unbound. "These smell...wonderful."

"They're straight from the underworld, by the way. They are everlasting. They won't die."

Interview

First off a big hello & welcome to Jess C Scott, who was kind enough to drop by Fiction Fascination for an interview.

Tell us about the Devilin Fey?

Thanks so much for hosting me today, Carly!

The Devilin Fey is part of the Naked Heat anthology. Here's a blurb for the anthology:

Naked Heat #1
(a collection of incubus and succubus stories):

Where sex demons of the night come out to play...

Where the way of life is all about seduction--its rules, its pleasures, its secrets...

Where there are no true substitutes for devilish delights.

Where did the idea come from to start writing The Devilin Fey?

The Devilin Fey features a demure young woman unleashing the “devil in” her, through the intimacy with an incubus (*her* incubus). I wanted to combine paranormal elements with sexuality and individuality (to combat shallowness and superficiality--I've always been annoyed with the commoditization of sex in post-modern times).

Tell us about some of your other works?

I'm currently working on Bad Romance (short stories involving star-crossed lovers and the seven deadly sins), and completing an urban fantasy series featuring cyberpunk elves. I write in different genres, though the main aim is to create stories that are both entertaining and meaningful :)

Tell us about your writing process? how long would it take you to write a book?

I usually like to draft an outline first (keeps me focused and disciplined). My first book (a blog/IM novel) took several months to write. I've been working faster since then, though editing and "final tweaks" still take time.

Are you working on any writing at the minute?

I'm currently working on http://www.jessink.com/badromance.htm. The covers are done--I just need to complete the writing/editing...

What sorts of thing do you enjoy getting up to in you spare time?

Reading, sampling/enjoying good food, keeping up to date with pop culture.

What is you favourite genre?

I tend to enjoy classics and fantasy books the most. Something beautiful, imaginative, and of high quality (something that has the potential to stand the test of time).

Top 5 all time favourite books?

Anything by George Orwell, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allan Poe, Roald Dahl (so hard to pick a favourite book!).

Who is your favourite fictional character? why?

I've always liked the characters from Vivian Vande Velde's Dragon's Bait, and Jane Yolen's Dragon's Blood. And Howl from Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I think I really enjoyed the wit, depth and original personalities of the characters.

Where can people find you? and your works?
