This heart breaking but beautiful story pulled me in from the very first page. It is filled with emotion and is a real thought provoker! I think there is something for all ages to be learnt throughout August's journey.
What I enjoyed the most about Wonder was the way in which It was written. There were sections from all different point of views - which I think made the book feel all the more real. We get to see how other people see August and how him having (forgive me if I'm wording this wrong) a serious facial birth defect affects others too.
The writing is raw, but brutally honest - I think this is where the beauty in this story lies though!
August is such a trooper and I love how his wicked sense of humour always manages to shine through those tough times. I started this book feeling sorry for little August, but finished it feeling sorry for the people who couldn't see past August's looks. He is a beautiful boy inside and out and I wanted to scream at these small minded people, to just go and talk to August to find this out for themselves.
August was born with a serious facial defect and he has been through countless operations his entire life. He knows when people are staring at him out of the corners of their eyes but he really can't blame them. He has been home schooled by him mum his whole life. This is a story of his journey through starting school and dealing with people who give him a hard time - it's also a story of beautiful friendships and bravery that is a joy to read!
The ending is fantastic *sob* and that's all I will say about it! I really, really can't urge everyone enough to pick up this highly memorable and extremely moving book, because it really is a must read!
Wonder is simply wonderful! #choosekind
5/5 Stars!
