Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher‏

Summary from Goodreads

Secrets, romance, murder and lies: Zoe shares a terrible secret in a letter to a stranger on death row in this second novel from the author of the bestselling debut, My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece.

Fifteen-year-old Zoe has a secret—a dark and terrible secret that she can't confess to anyone she knows. But then one day she hears of a criminal, Stuart Harris, locked up on death row in Texas. Like Zoe, Stuart is no stranger to secrets. Or lies. Or murder.

Full of heartache yet humour, Zoe tells her story in the only way she can—in letters to the man in prison in America. Armed with a pen, Zoe takes a deep breath, eats a jam sandwich, and begins her tale of love and betrayal.

My Review

Ketchup Clouds is a really beautiful book that really does stand out from the crowd!

How much easier it seems to be to reveal your inner and most darkest secrets to a total stranger.

I love that it's written in the form of letters - I think we get a better insight into the fabulous Zoe from letters of herself laid bare! She is a really great character that I think has really strong powerful voice and I liked her a lot!

Annabel Pitcher has a really simple and very natural style of writing, I found it very refreshing and also very easy to loose myself in. The mystery really kept me intrigued up until the very end and I loved that it's  laced with humourous little snippets. I had some ideas what was going to happen but I ended up being a little surprised in the end.

I liked so much about this book but I have to say the very end was stunning, heart felt and I was left feeling very fuzzy indeed.

The storyline is in a series of letters written by Zoe Collins to a criminal on death row - she tells him her secrets and everything else that is going wrong in her life. Her confessions seem to lift a weight off but what is the dark secret that she is keeping hidden?

Do you know, I was wondering for ages why the book was called Ketchup Clouds and when I stumbled upon why, I couldn't help smiling from ear to ear.

I think Ketchup Clouds is a wonderfully simple but imaginative book that is full of the trails and tests that a typical teenager goes through, but in this case taken too far! I really can't recommend enough!

4.5 / 5 Stars!
