Icons by Margaret Stohl

Summary from Goodreads

Your heart beats only with their permission.

Everything changed on The Day. The day the windows shattered. The day the power stopped. The day Dol′s family dropped dead. The day Earth lost a war it didn′t know it was fighting.

Since then, Dol has lived a simple life in the countryside - safe from the shadow of the Icon and its terrifying power. Hiding from the one truth she can′t avoid.

She′s different. She survived. Why?

When Dol and her best friend, Ro, are captured and taken to the Embassy, off the coast of the sprawling metropolis once known as the City of Angels, they find only more questions. While Ro and fellow hostage Tima rage against their captors, Dol finds herself drawn to Lucas, the Ambassador′s privileged son. But the four teens are more alike than they might think, and the timing of their meeting isn′t a coincidence. It′s a conspiracy.

Within the Icon′s reach, Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas discover that their uncontrollable emotions - which they′ve always thought to be their greatest weaknesses - may actually be their greatest strengths.

Bestselling author Margaret Stohl delivers the first book in a heart-pounding series set in a haunting new world where four teens must piece together the mysteries of their pasts - in order to save the future.

 My Review

Beautiful Creatures is without a shadow of doubt my favourite series of all time - so I'm sure you can imagine my excitement when I heard that Margaret Stohl was going solo and releasing Icons!

Unfortunately I think I set my expectations too high - to be completely honest I didn't get this book! A lot of things didn't make sense to me and I so desperately wanted everything to be perfect!

I don't want to be all negative here, I really do think this is a good first instalment from Margaret Stohl. Icons actually reminds me a little bit of a mix between Falling Skies (T.V. show) and Under the Never Sky - which isn't a bad thing! I didn't understand the Icons or the Icon children and I think more explanations would have been needed for me to get a better understanding.

Now the characters: Dol I liked, but I feel like the only thing memorable about her is her name to be completely honest! Now there is a bit of a love triangle going on here but the 2 guys, Ro and Lucas, are definitely the best thing about the book and I really can't wait to get to know more about them. I don't really know which guy I liked more because I really did like them both for their differences.

The storyline follows Dol and the tests, trials and adventures she faces after what they call The Day! Most people where the Icons landed on The Day died -Dol is the exception to the rule. Why?

She must discover things for herself with the help of the devoted Ro. Dol will prove to be a key played in the deadly Icon war and life will quickly become unpredictable and highly dangerous.

The writing is great here and I was very intrigued but I really needed to know more hows and whys. I think this series can seriously progress if some of my confusions are cleared up in the next book.

I really, really enjoyed the ending of Icons and I'm extremely excited to see where Margaret Shohl is going to take us in the next adventure!

2.5 / 5 Stars!
