Paper Aeroplanes by Dawn O' Porter‏

Summary from Goodreads

It's the mid-1990s, and fifteen year-old Guernsey schoolgirls, Renée and Flo, are not really meant to be friends. Thoughtful, introspective and studious Flo couldn't be more different to ambitious, extroverted and sexually curious Renée. But Renée and Flo are united by loneliness and their dysfunctional families, and an intense bond is formed. Although there are obstacles to their friendship (namely Flo's jealous ex-best friend and Renée's growing infatuation with Flo's brother), fifteen is an age where anything can happen, where life stretches out before you, and when every betrayal feels like the end of the world. For Renée and Flo it is the time of their lives.

With graphic content and some scenes of a sexual nature, PAPER AEROPLANES is a gritty, poignant, often laugh-out-loud funny and powerful novel. It is an unforgettable snapshot of small-town adolescence and the heart-stopping power of female friendship.

My Review

This is a truly amazing book that I think will strike a chord in some way or other with everyone! Every page I turned I was smiling as I could remember some of these scandals from my own wild teenage years! Dawn O' Porter has woven a very believable story here and I think the best thing is how true she has stayed to typical teens!

The friendships are beautiful, not perfect or rosy but rocky and real. I just loved sitting back and watching Renée and Flo's relationship blossom and grow throughout. Every time someone done something that could destroy the friendship - I was literally screaming at the book!

Renée and Flo are fabulous characters and I loved them both for their differences - I actually see a little bit of my teenage self in Renée's wild antics! Getting to know these girls was soooo much fun but also quite an emotional ride.

The storyline comes from a duel narrative and it just works and reads like a dream. It follows two friends through some of the most trying times of their teenage lives - there are ups, downs, plenty of tears, fun and wild behaviour - but best of all a solid friendship. Renée and Flo need to find themselves but they manage to find each other along the way.

I actually think adored everything about this brilliantly edgy book. The ending is perfect and had me smiling from ear to ear.

Paper Aeroplanes is a very raw but brutally honest book about the value of a best-friend, it is written so wonderfully and is really not to be missed!

A BIG 5 Stars!
