Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan

Summary from Gooodreads

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

My Review

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares is a simply adorable book that will definitely get you in the mood for Christmas! I will admit that the beginning of the book didn't grab me, I found the dialogue a little confusing and I thought Lily was a tad annoying, actually she reminded me a bit of Lola from the kids program Charlie and Lola! But I stuck with the book and I am so glad I did, I ended up loving Lily and her quirky little ways - even her shrilly moments. This is a sweet, heart-warming book that takes the reader on a fabulous journey along side Dash and Lily, who's love story was epic, totally natural and a joy to read about! The authors have put together a fantastically fun novel that will have you grinning like an idiot throughout!

In a bookshop in her favourite section Lily has left a red notebook with sets of clues written inside - the book is just waiting to be discovered and it is picked up by a snarky guy called Dash! He's able to follow the clues and he leaves some of his own for Lily.

The pair embark on a real journey leaving dares and riddles for each other, they are slowly getting to know each other like nobody else has ever bothered to do before. They are having the time of their lives and they think they have the perfect picture of each other in their heads. When the pair finally meet face to face will they live up to each others perfect picture?

This really is a darling tale that had me feeling all warm right to the tips of my toes! I adored Dash and Lily - Dash is smart, funny, sarcastic, snarky, geeky and he had me sighing throughout. Lily really is something else - She is bookish, quirky, shrilly on occasion and an all round nice girl. I was so pleased with the ending, it was perfect. Curl up with this perfect Christmassy book today and you really will be in for a real treat!

  3. I've seen Charlie and Lola a few times (I have no idea how that happened as there are no children in my house!) and have to say the thought of a Lola-ish character makes me laugh. ;) I'm glad you connected with the characters in the end though and enjoyed it as much as you did. I need to slip this in somewhere before Christmas! :) Brilliant review.

  4. Oh, I ADORE this book! I've noticed reviews popping up again lately and it has me wanting to reread it SO bad! This book has such amazing quotes! I met David Levithan in October and this was the book I most wanted signed. And he was awesome, so nice and easy to talk to!

PS. Heidi from Rainy Day Ramblings sent me this way, she said you're awesome!
