Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley

Summary

"Let me make it in time. Let me meet Shadow. The guy who paints in the dark. Paints birds trapped on brick walls and people lost in ghost forests. Paints guys with grass growing from their hearts and girls with buzzing lawn mowers."

It’s the end of Year 12. Lucy’s looking for Shadow, the graffiti artist everyone talks about.

His work is all over the city, but he is nowhere.

Ed, the last guy she wants to see at the moment, says he knows where to find him. He takes Lucy on an all-night search to places where Shadow’s thoughts about heartbreak and escape echo around the city walls.

But the one thing Lucy can’t see is the one thing that’s right before her eyes.

My Review

Aww, I fell head over heels in love with Graffiti Moon! I was hooked from the first page and I devoured this book in 2 quick sittings. I am gutted I didn't pick this up sooner, if anyone has this sitting on their shelves not read, go open it now as you really won't be disappointed! Cath Crowley's writing style flows perfectly, it is so easy to fall into and loose yourself in, it is also fast paced and beautiful. This fabulously simple storyline is a work of art, the characters are down-to-earth, real and very moreish! I love graffiti myself, if it's done well and the descriptors in this book are so vividly awesome that they came alive so easily in my head. I like that this centers around all things art, not forgetting the really natural love story that had me sighing throughout. I was able to completely loose myself in Graffiti Moon and not a lot of books can make you feel that way, so an all round fantastic read!

Lucy longs to meet the elusive Shadow, who paints the most beautiful art in the shadows. She always misses him and it's driving her mad. Lucy and her friends go out to celebrate finishing year 12, they spend the night with 3 guys, which Lucy isn't too happy about  because one of the guys Ed she has a bit of history with (she broke his nose). Ed agrees to help Lucy look for Shadow while the others are hooking up, but little does she know he is they guy she is searching for, he's just afraid to tell her! Will she discover this mystery on her own?

I love Ed, he is my favourite character in the book. He has a really raw, honest voice that holds some really great humour. I found myself falling for him alongside Lucy and I simply adored reading their journey throughout the book. The ending of this was just fab, I couldn't of been happier with how everything played out. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because of Poet, he is so intriguing, I loved his character and his wonderful poems but I would of liked to have has more chapters from his point of view in there.

Cath Crowley has brought an amazing novel to the table here and I will be on the lookout for more of her works in the future.

4.5/5 Stars

  1. I loved Ed too. Ed, Lucy, I loved them all! I put this book off for quite a while myself and wished I had picked it up sooner too. It's a good thing it was released in the UK or I doubt I would have even gotten around to it! I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did, Carly. :) Lovely review!
