Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

From Goodreads:

Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever...

My Review:

I loved Vampire Academy so much, I really wish I would of read it sooner, I have been seriously missing out. I fell in love with the in-depth characters from the start and couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

Lissa Dragomir is a princess and mortal vampire(Moroi), Lissa and the rest of her race need to be protected at all costs, from the deadly Strigori (immortal vampires) who crave their blood. Rose Hathaway is Lissa's bodyguard and best-friend, she would do anything to keep Lissa safe. The girls have lifelong friends and have a fantastic friendship.

Rose is a Dhampir, Dhampir's are all trained at the academy to be the guardians of the Moroi. Rose takes Lissa out of the academy, for her own safety. They get along brilliantly until they get captured by guardians (led by Dimitri) and taken back to the academy.

The girls soon find out they need to watch each others backs, someone has it in fore Lissa, sinister things start to happen to her.

Dimitri is giving Rose extra training classes, to try and make up for the training she missed. Dimitri is swoon worthy and Rose starts to fall hard for him. He is alot older than Rose and her mentor, so not not exactly the best feelings to have.

The ending is fantastic, I loved it so much. I was definitely not expecting what happened, at all. Everything is now set up nicely, for what I hope will be amazing things to come in future books. I love the whole world Richelle Mead has created here, I am now a fan of the series an I cannot wait to get my hands on Frostbite, the next in the series.

My Favourite characters have to be:

Rose- She is one of the most in-depth characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. I love her attitude, she is fun, witty, fierce, loyal, has a great sense of humour and most importantly is a great friend.

Lissa- is so intriguing to read about, she has a  completely different nature to Rose. She is quiet and shy but also has a dark side, lurking inside, looking to come out. She is going to be so powerful and I cannot wait to read how her strange abilities develop.

Of course Dimitri has to get a mention, he is dark, mysterious, powerful and did I mention HOT.? I really hope there is alot more to come from him, the sexual tension between Rose and him was killing me lol ;)

A five star read
