My Review
The Path is quite different from any other witchy book out there at the minute. I really did enjoy the book as a whole, but I feel like there was a little something missing for me and I can't quite put my finger on what it was. The book has a great storyline and is well written, but I think I just lacked a connection with main character Cassie.
Cassie is a witch, she is in training to become an investigations officer at Veris (like a witching police force) . She has mixed blood, both water & earth magic, which she is yet to come into and get a handle on. The mission she is going on is Cassie's last ditch attempt to get a grip on her magic and secure her job at Veris.
Julia and Quan are trained officers and partners at Veris. They have Cassie in their care, helping to try and train her. They all set off on their mission together, to investigate reports of magic being used in a nightclub.
When they arrive at the club in question they meet a man named Drew. Who seems to have un-trained magic that he is unaware of. But he is not the source of the magic they are looking for. After some digging around they find out that Drew's brother Brandon and a man named Terry Pitchard are behind the sinister magic being used in and around the club.
Quan and Julia head off after Pitchard, leaving Cassie to protect Drew. It becomes apparent that the pair have an attraction to each other. Cassie makes a breakthrough with her magic and really comes into her own.
Can they put a stop to the evil man that is Terry Pitchard? Who is using and abusing the people at his disposal. He is a wicked man and what is more chilling is he totally believes that what he is doing is for the greater good, he is quite a delusional man.
The ending is very good and I was very pleased with the outcome. The book was a little slow paced at the beginning, but the ending really picked up paced and was action packed. I would love The Path to be the first book in a new series, as there is so much more I would love to know about the interesting world HK Savage has created here.
My favourite characters were:
Julia & Quan: Man, I wish we got to read more about this pair, they are so intriguing. They are both very powerful, Julia is really likeable, a sort of motherly type. Quan comes across sullen and moody, but I think that is all on the surface and he is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
Drew: I love Drew, he went through so much so much throughout the book. He handled everything very well and I think he is an all round good guy.
